When the snow begins to melt and the weather starts to warm up, there are many opportunities to get out of the house, both in and around Detroit. These five annual events will give you an excuse to get outside during the spring.
Eastern Market Flower Day
Each year since 1967, Flower Day has happened the Sunday after Mother’s Day. Fifteen acres of different flower varieties fill Eastern Market on the busiest weekend of the year. This year, it will occur on May 20th from 7am-5pm.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an event you won’t want to miss. The whole family can enjoy watching the parade and celebrate as it travels through the streets of Detroit. This year, it will begin at the Michigan Central Train Depot on March 15th at 10:30am.

Motor City Blues Festival
The 14th Annual Motor City Blues Festival will feature seven recognized blues artists. The Fox Theatre is a beautiful venue, creating a wonderful atmosphere for attendees. The Blues Festival will take place on March 14th and begin at 7pm.

Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix is an opportunity to witness top-level sports cars as they race through the circuit at Belle Isle. This unique event welcomes competitors from all over the world. Watch it all take place May 29th-31st.

Detroit Tigers Opening Day
On March 30th, at 1:10pm, the Detroit Tigers will have their first home game of the season. Welcome back baseball as the Tigers take on the Kansas City Royals. They begin a week-long homestand that includes two games against the Royals and four games against the Cleveland Indians.
