Detroit Film Theatre |

Discover the Detroit Film Theatre, a grandiose, opera-style theatre hidden inside the Detroit Institute of Arts. This gold-plated, high-ceiling auditorium transports audiences to a place and time reminiscent of historic music halls and stages. Unlike mainstream movie theatres, this cinema explores Detroit, African American culture, foreign and independent films and documentaries. Before heading in to see a movie, have a snack at the Crystal Gallery Café, which opens one hour before show time and serves baked goods, soups, salads, and beverages such as coffee, tea and wine.

This architecturally gorgeous theatre is half the experience, an art piece that keeps in tune with the artwork already occupying the DIA. Keep an eye out for special cinema series and movie show times on the DIA website.
